Moon of the Hungry Ghosts - Liner Notes
People who have been listening to Z-Train music for a while may remark that this release sounds like music from previous albums. And that's partially true. Moon of the Hungry Ghosts is something of a "deleted scenes" record. Most of these songs were recorded between 1998 and 2005 but, for different reasons, never made it onto other releases. As I get older, I find myself reworking my ideas and recordings from years ago. This phase of my life is all about editing the thoughts and impulses of youth. Anyway, while going over these old tunes, some themes emerged -- fall, halloween, death and the afterlife -- all the ingredients for a good scare. Autumn has always been my favorite time of year, and this album is intended to honor the special, dark things about the season. Finally, a few people other than me, me, me perform on this release. My lil' sister, Julia Zangrilli, wrote and sings "Losing Your Ground." My lovely daughter Mirabella freaks out on "All Hallows." And my pals Randy Morris and Ann Lung shred their axes on "Law Punk."
